The interdisciplinary and transnational EU-funded project “Shaping Informed Frameworks for Trust” (SHIFT) addresses the challenge of disinformation by exploring strategies beyond the identification and detection of illegitimate influence campaigns.
Through a systematic approach, the project seeks to answer key questions: Which disinformation narratives are most successful? Whom do they reach, and which attitudes are associated with them? How can audiences be engaged who have not been reached by previous countermeasures?
SHIFT examines the impact of disinformation on societal trust in 13 European countries and develops scalable, evidence-based countermeasures for policymakers, the media, and civil society. To strengthen societal resilience and contain narratives that have already been disseminated at an earlier stage, targeted counter-narratives are developed in real digital environments and tested using A/B testing and iterative optimization.
As part of the project, CeMAS will focus on assessing the status quo, as well as developing, piloting, and evaluating intervention strategies.
